Local, State, and Federal regulations present an ever changing framework of complexity for landowners and developers. Our goal is bringing value to our clients’ projects by providing an integrated environmentally sustainable design while working through assessment, to design and ensuring completion.

CONGAREE CARTON – MITIGATION BANK

The EARTHWORKS Group, through our work with the Fairlawn Partners and American Forest Management (AFM), established the Congaree-Carton Wetland Mitigation Bank within the South Carolina Cooper River watershed in the headwaters of the Wando River.

The project site, located in Charleston County, includes approximately 424-acres near the Francis Marion National Forest. This project created approximately 1,500 wetland credits for sale to development clients.

In the near future the bank will also provide non-buffer enhancement credits for estuarine tidal systems as well.

MURRELS INLET MARSHWALK

EARTHWORKS successfully completed the design, permitting, and construction administration of the Murrells Inlet Marshwalk for the community group, Murrells Inlet 2007 (MI2007) along with Georgetown County Parks and Recreation Department.

The Marshwalk is over 1/2 mile long and connects the central business district to the Murrells Inlet fishing pier.

It has been designed for ADA requirements and built to withstand the large number of pedestrian traffic and visitors during the summer months and at holiday celebrations.

MOSS PARK CONSTRUCTED WETLANDS

A private developer retained EARTHWORKS to provide engineering services for a commercial project and find innovative solutions that could reduce infrastructure costs.

A project that encompasses approximately 49 acres within Horry County, EARTHWORKS minimized retention pond depths that reduced construction costs and would address water quality concerns through the implementation of Low Impact Development techniques.

Analysis determined that diversion of storm water into constructed wetlands would provide improved water quality at a lower cost and serve to meet the landscaping requirements of the county. The constructed wetlands were found to meet the success criteria within 3 years of project installation.

RICEFIELDS CONSTRUCTED WETLANDS

The Ricefields subdivision is located in Pawleys Island, SC containing approximately 76 acres. A wetland restoration plan was developed to replace the wetland in a different alignment to keep the building footprints on the existing lots.

The restored wetland was created by excavating a larger depression similar to the previous natural drain, starting near the outfall point of the pipe, and flowing toward the lake, parallel to the existing rear lot swale.

Natural regeneration dominated this project and the constructed wetlands were found to meet the success criteria within 2 years of project installation.
